Kerry is the fifth largest county in Ireland, 38% covered by mountains and lakes, 11% covered by bog and 51% by lowland mineral soil.

Killarney Town is situated at the base of Ireland's highest mountain range and is the gateway to the Killarney Valley and Killarney National Park. Killarney National Park covers approximately 10,000 hectares/26,000 acres of mountain, valley, parkland, woodland/forest and lakes.

Air Access is available through Kerry International Airport (18km) , Cork International Airport (85km) and Shannon International Airport (128km) and via commuter air, rail or road from Dublin Airport(310km). Irish Rail the national rail company provides train services to & from Dublin / Cork / Limerick / Galway and within Kerry to & from Tralee, Farranfore and Rathmore. The National Bus Service, Bus Eireann provides Bus services to & from Dublin / Cork / Limerick / Galway and within Kerry to & from all of the main centers of population.

The unit of currency is the Euro, divided into one hundred cent. Banks in Killarney are open 10.00 - 16.00 Monday-Tuesday-Thursday- Friday and 10.30 to 17.00. on Wednesday's. This may vary somewhat from bank to bank - check locally. Bureau De Change facilities in Killarney are available in other locations until later and some operate seven days a week.

Electrical Supply
The standard domestic electrical supply is 230 volts AC (50 cycles). To use small appliances, you may need a plug adaptor to 3-pin flat or 2-pin round wall sockets. For standard commercial and industrial requirements 3 Phase 410 volts (nominal voltage) AC (50 cycles) is available. For larger commercial and industrial requirements, Medium Voltage connections at 10kv & 20 kv, and High Voltage connections at 38kv & 110kv are available.

The opening hours of most shops are 9am until 5.30pm or 6.00pm Monday to Saturday. In Killarney, in the Spring/Summer/Autumn period, quite a number of shops remain open until 10 or 11pm. Most shops are also open on Sundays in the summer.
